Penny Wong Set to Take On the World

That's the headline on The Age yesterday.

Labor senator Penny Wong has been thrown in the deep end by becoming Australia's lead negotiator at global greenhouse talks beginning next week. Prime Minister-elect Kevin Rudd has named Senator Wong Minister for Climate Change and Water.

Minister for Climate Change and Water? What kind of portfolio is that? Let's see now.
This is Climate Change:

Better do something about those glaciers Senator Wong!

And this one too!

While you're at it, see if you can fix this.

You see, those are only the side-effects, as a result of a bigger man-created problem like this:

Hazelwood, in Victoria, is Australia's most greenhouse polluting power station,
producing about the same greenhouse emissions as 3.95 million cars per year.
Hoolamak! Like putting 8 cigarrettes in one mouth.

Coal-fired power station in the Hunter Valley.
Danger - yup. You got that right.

Bayswater coal-fired power station in the New South Wales Hunter Valley.
This is the father of all smokin' cigars.

Let's see, what was it again - Minister for Climate Change and Water. Water, hmmm. This is a picture of the Outback in Australia. Everywhere you go, it looks about the same.

Where got water? How to find water? How to win like this?

I think she's been shortchanged. The Australians are just bullying her.

Boy oh boy, she's got a tough job ahead!

The Will to Live: The William Liew Story

Christmas is less than a month away. We've reached the end of yet another year. At this point in time, we'd look back on our lives & think about what we've achieved, the happy times & not so happy times that we've had, and the things yet to be done. It's also a time to think of renewal & to start a new year with a new perspective & approach to living.

For us, all this is easy. But for a few other unfortunate ones, it takes more than just courage. For them, it is about the struggle of the human spirit, the will to live on, and to reconcile with the past.

If you remember, there was word going around in Kuching about a car accident sometime back in May this year. A car was hit by a lorry.

In it, a pregnant mother, her two little girls who were still babies, and her own mother were crushed to death. In the blink of an eye, all 5 lives were taken away on that tragic day.

I didn't realise it then, but this story & pictures were featured on Kenny Sia's blog.

Immediately, our sympathies go out to the mother, the unborn child, and the little girls. But little is known of the other story behind this. The story of the husband who is left behind all alone now is even more heart-wrenching.

He has since decided to go on & start a new life in China. But the pain still remains with him, still as strong and as real as yesterday. If you have the time, please visit his blog here to give him words of encouragement.

What William had to go through reminds us of how puny & insignificant the problems in our lives are. There is nothing that cannot be solved & reconciled. There is nothing more valuable than a human life. And that is why we must always remember, not only on Christmas, but always, to cherish our loved ones, family members & friends.

Puppy Power 4: Updates

If you think the story below is touching, read this. It's not touching though. Instead, it's silly.

An Inspiring Dog Story

Sometimes we come across a real life story that is just so inspiring that we need to share it with as many people as we can.

This is one such story. I don't know where it came from but it seems to have taken place in China or Taiwan. I got this in the email, and I traced it back to this blog. So I'm going to copy & post the whole thing here, unedited, in its original form:

Who Said Only Humans Know What Love Is?

Yes, animals are more deluded because of their capacity of their physical body, but occasionally some of them might be able show us the love that we have forgotten on our 'busy road'. Just like this story.

this is real touching…

Hey, wake up! wake up!

A dog was knocked down by a car and died on the middle of the road. Later, another dog is seen beside the corpse of the dog, he tried to wake his friend up using his leg.

Let's move to the safer side of the road...i will move you to the safer side.

When his attempts to wake his friend failed, he tried to push his friend to the side of the road. But the weight of his friend was proven too heavy for him.

Anyone help, tell me what to do.

Though the traffic is busy and dangerous, he just will not go away from his friend. Just stand beside his friend howling and crying.

A lot of people saw this incident and felt very touched. How even a dog can show his loyalty and love to his friend.

I think this dog's story deserves to be told & shared with everyone. If this story moves you as much as it did me, please feel free to email it to all your friends & family. There's none of that evil curse or consequences if you don't. Just feel free to do it if you feel compelled enough. You can click on the email icon at the bottom here.

Good Year but Not So Good Day

How do you know when you're going to have a bad day?
Well, when you're all dressed up, and ready to go to work, and you find that the tyre is flat. I mean really really flat as pancake.

How do you know when the day is going to get worse?

Well, after sweating it out in your office attire, you give up on opening the tyre nuts & bolts manually, as they were mechanically screwed in too tight the last time. I gave it all my manly strength, but they just wouldn't budge.

That's how you know it's going to be a bad day. And all that happened this morning.

I had to bring the mechanic to my house. He brought his lorry with a HUGE gas cylinder & a generator at the back. When I saw it I thought, 'Ngai tee! What the heck is that? I'm only changing tyres!'

It turns out he was using a mechanical air-pump screw driver. That was some heavy duty machine there, all just to open up 4 wittle tiny bolts.

So then I brought my car to his workshop to change the other worn out tyres. The towkay kept selling his MICHELIN tyres to me. I know it's better than the GOODYEAR that I'm using. I mean just look at the mascot. He must have been a really healthy baby.
Very well fed. Very the ho liaw.

As expected, the price is just as ho liaw. RM310 each. But the towkay's willing to give me RM290. But at that point in time, I needed to buy 2 new tyres, and I'm not willing to spend about RM600. A little bit more, and I'm almost touching the big 1K figure.

Who spends 1K for tyres? 1K is something that you spend on a holiday.

So I went for the cheapest rubber that he's got - SIME Goodyear. RM240 each. What the heck. A tyre is a tyre. They won't last. I'll need to change them again soon anyway.

Yeah, it doesn't matter. As long as I'll get there.

So how do you know when the day has reached the peak of Royal Worst-ness?

It's when you have to spend almost RM500 for two rings of GOODYEAR rubber!
I don't know about how GOOD the YEAR has been. But I definitely had a not so good day!

Hindraf: It's Another Rally Again!

"Andrew! Come to the window quickly dear!
By Jove! the Mega Sales Carnival is back again isn't it?"

It happened again. There was another rally yesterday. This is the third one this year.

This time around 30,000 Indians came out to play in the streets of KL. As usual, the police fired tear gases & sprayed them with chemical water. What a great show. It'll keep the tourists coming back for more next year.

The rallies are slowly becoming an indispensible entertainment on the internet. It's entertainment value for the whole family. Instead of playing violent games, kids now can play The Royal Malaysian Police versus the rallies.

I guess once in a while it's good to see our police & our fire engines coming out & actually do some work.

They should have done this during the haze.

And as usual again, all this was followed by denials. Najib called them "stubborn, wild and aggressive" (Bernama). Meanwhile Samy Vellu said there was nothing wrong. The whole country was beautiful, peaceful, the government very loving & everyone's happy.

Here's Al-Jazeera again. I think it is quickly becoming one of my favourite news network.

All photos ripped off from Screenshots heheheh.
